Austria in the DACH context

Similarweb's June 2026 panel (360.2M global visits, site rank #87) reports only the top five countries individually: the US (41.37%), Germany (5.67%), the UK (4.99%), Canada (4.96%) and Spain (3.04%). Austria falls into the long tail below those markets. Germany is the only DACH country listed separately — now the #2 country worldwide at 5.67%, up from 4.53% and #4 in December 2025.

A plausible estimate for Austria comes from two methods:

• Population scaling: Germany has 84 million inhabitants, Austria 8.9 million — about 10.6% of the German population. At a similar per-capita penetration this implies a ~0.60% traffic share (10.6% × 5.67%) for Austria.
• DACH aggregate: internet trends in Austria typically follow Germany with a ~6–12 month lag, and Austrian per-capita engagement has historically run slightly above the pure population ratio. A range of ~0.75–1.0% — the December-2025 estimate of 0.6–0.8% rescaled to the June-2026 DE baseline — is conservative-realistic.

Austrian creators

OnlyFans admits creators from Austria without restriction. Sign-up and payouts work via SEPA bank transfer in EUR. Austrian creators are subject to:

• Income tax (Einkommensteuer): progressive, up to 55% — OnlyFans income counts as business income or self-employed professional income depending on the scope of the activity.
• VAT (UStG): 20% standard rate on Austrian customers (pro rata); the small-business exemption (Kleinunternehmerregelung) applies up to EUR 35,000 annual revenue.
• Social insurance (SVS): mandatory contributions once income exceeds the marginal-earnings threshold (Geringfügigkeitsgrenze).

Regulatory environment

Austria implements the EU AVMSD through its Audiovisual Media Services Act (AMD-G), enforced by the media regulator KommAustria. In addition:

• JMStV-equivalent provisions: age verification is mandatory for adult content. OnlyFans satisfies this via its ID verification.
• EU Digital Services Act (DSA): transparency reports and complaint mechanisms for platforms.
• Data protection: the EU GDPR applies in full.

Austria within the total DACH market

DACH (Germany + Austria + Switzerland) adds up to an estimated ~6.9–7.3% of global OnlyFans traffic and roughly $306–330M in 2025 fan spending on the June-2026 baseline (December-2025 basis: ~5.5–6.0% and $290–320M). Germany accounts for the bulk of it (5.67% traffic, $237M estimated spend), Austria for roughly 12–14% of the DACH market, and Switzerland for the remainder.

How Austria compares with its DACH neighbours

Despite the smaller market size, Austria ranks near the front of the DACH region per capita. Scaled to population (June-2026 baseline; December-2025 values in brackets):

Austria sits almost level with Germany on account penetration (~8.9% vs. ~9.6%) — which points to similar usage patterns across the mainstream German-speaking DACH market, despite the smaller absolute market size. Switzerland drops off noticeably — presumably due to alternative consumption channels (other language regions, higher per-capita diversification of media use).

Earnings expectations for Austrian creators

With an estimated Austrian creator population of ~3,500–4,500 (about 12–14% of the DACH creator pool, which in turn covers ~280k accounts), the earnings picture follows the typical platform power law:

• Median (50th percentile): ~EUR 150–250/month. Roughly half of all Austrian creator accounts rarely clear the minimum payout threshold of $20/month.
• Top-25% band: ~EUR 800–2,500/month. This is the "genuine side-income" zone — consistent content plus a DM strategy.
• Top 10%: ~EUR 3,000–8,000/month. Full-time equivalent, often with a cross-platform funnel.
• Top 1%: above EUR 15,000/month. Rare in Austria, because the mainstream-addressable audience size is limited.

Austrian tax situation: OnlyFans earnings are taxed in Austria as self-employed income (§ 22 EStG). Above the EUR 35,000/year revenue threshold, VAT liability kicks in.
